does anyone have the procedure to upgrade an lsp remotely? i have the 4.0.1 CD & i would like to upgrade my site in Boston (i'm in NY) via my network. how is this done? do i download the cd contents onto my desktop & ftp them somewhere?

hey everyone, so i downloaded the entire cd to my desktop, i also have winscp to make it easier, what folder & where do i place it on my 8700? i put it into var/home/ftp/pub, then i went to the gateway selected manage software, copy but do not download, i enter my tftp ip but i get an error - Invalid Installation Media tftp://10.99.109.187/Releases, also, when i try to copy the 4.0.1 files into the releases folder i get permission denied

use the maint. web interface, then go into "manage software", and you can copy the new release onto each S8700 server via TFTP.

I'm in Boston, if you really get stuck.

well i tried that but i showed you the error i'm getting, BTW how much would you charge me

when you use "manage software", there shuold be a selection for "TFTP copy", where you put in the IP address of the TFTP server, that has the CM 4.0.1 CD/or copy of the CD.

Then CM copies the release where it belongs.

You did not specify what release you are on now... if it's now a CM2 release, you need a pre-installation patch, and once that patch is activated, it fixed the "Manage Software" link, so it works properly, as in the CM3/CM4 versions do.

Trust me, I have done this before.

then your job is rather easy... just use the "Manage Software", "copy a new release", then clock on the "TFTP" selection, put in the IP address of your TFTP server, and make sure your TFTP server is pointing at the CD.

You might also have to go into the firewall of each server, and make sure TFTP is enabled (port 69) for input and output.

You don't even need a new license to go from CM 4.0 to CM 4.0.1, its pretty easy... just get your new patches on the /var/home/ftp/pub directory of each server before you start, and your job is very easy.

i'm on with Avaya Tier 3 now, i still cant see where i have to put the files on my 8700

You don't need to 'see" where to put the files, "Manage Software" takes care of that for you. You use the toold AVAYA has given us, why do you care where it puts them? It can have up to 3 releases, ready to install. It doesn't matter where it puts them, because "Manage Software" copies the release via TFTP to where it belongs.
