I repair a lot of personal and business computers, most being on dial-up connections. It is next to impossible to do windows updates on that connection, as most dont even connect above 30k (Yes, this is a rural area). I end of dragging most computers home with me to do the updates on my T1. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how I can take the updates to the computer remotly? Say, get a laptop, run SUS with all the updates, and then manually edit the registry on each computer to do the updates. Any easier, better ways to accomplish this?

THanks!

Matthew

Haven't you saved a CD full of all the windows updates for the various operating systems you work on? Drivers may be a bit of a problem, but you could use something like DriverGuide Toolkit to circumvent that problem in many instances. Third party programs are too variable to handle other than by individual download.

Also all the Service Packs and Critical updates are on the free Security CD released a while back.

Just let the scan by Windows Update tell you which other old updates it wants, then load them from your saved files on CD.

I had no idea that a CD was available for just such a thing. That is exactly what I was looking for. As for drivers, I bring along the most common ones. I havent run into too many driver problems.

Thanks for that great piece of information!
