Hey! Does anyone know if it is possible (via a command line, so it can be done remotely) to enable and disable a secondary nic card on win2k? I want a batch file that I can run on a remote desktop to enable a nic (with a wan address bound to it) and then start terminal services service. wait for a key press, then shuts down term svcs, and disables the outside nic.

I can turn on and of services remotely just fine, but haven't seend anything about remotely enabling a device (from the command line)

Thanks!

I'm not sure this would help but would it work to just have it renew the ip, start terminal services, wait for keypress, disable term. servies, and then release the ip? Considering that releasing the ip will stop the network card from working and then renewing it will start it back up.

Unfortunately that won't work, the outisde nic will have a static ip address (and we don't use dhcp, so I can't make a reservation for it) And you can't release a static ip.

Behind a remotely manageble firewall or router by any chance?

If your doing this for security sake, lock down the port to only terminal service 3389 to either 1 ip range or address.

That actually should work just fine.. (only allowing one ip/3389 from the outside) and my batch file will just start and stop terminal services. and give the people that need to login a pretty limited user account.
sweet!
