... use a VPN solution, but then you would not have a physical need to login to your server since the Symantec System Center is a mere remote control that can even be installed on your Windows XP Professional client. Generally, as soon as you have a VPN connection, the Symantec System Center should be able to discover servers and allow you to manage them using your local copy of the SSC.
With one caveat: the various SSC instances are not synched with each other. Say a user shows up with a virus while you're at work and you use the instance of SSC loaded on your work pc to clear the alert. When you get home and fire up that instance of SSC it will still be showing the alert.
Not a big deal, but if you clear lots of alerts at home it can sure freak your boss out to see a bunch of stuff still pending!
No. There is no synch. It's not that bad though, remember that the SSC is polling the Primary and Secondary servers to get the info it displays. Any settings (except for the SSC display itself) are stored on whatever server you made the changes to and will be reflected in any instance of the SSC.
Nothing is remembered or copied between the SSC's but since all the SSC instances are getting their info from the same place(s) it works out to be very useable.
