how do i setup remote web workplace, ive been unsuccesful in my test and seraches. my internal website is also not working im unsure why. i have a webserver kinda it goes on 9090 as opposed to 80 i will be upgrading my services soon to allow 80 i will worry about it then. thanks in advanced for all help

Hi,

We could do some more information on this one.

RWW simply works as part of SBS once you have completed installation.

To get to it internally it will serve on
You will need to port forward 443 and 4125 to your SBS Server to get to it externally, so I don't know why you have mentioned port 80?

Once you have setup port forwarding you will be able to get it on
I hope that helps.

Thanks.

How many nics do you have? If 2, does a 192.168.16.2/remote work internally?

when i say webserver i mean the sbs server. yes i have 2 nics but only one is being used. this is the error for 192.168.1.10/remote and 192.168.1.10/remote:9090 also 192.168.1.10

The connection has timed out
The server at 192.168.1.10 is taking too long to respond.

and all websites are at default ports now

Do an iisreset from the command line and check again.

When you go into Server Management and look at Monitoring or Backup areas, do they display information, or do you get errors? What happens when you open a browser on the server and type "companyweb"?

typing companyweb on the server just brings me to a search, when i click monitoring and reporting under standard management i get a page cannot be found error same with internal web site if that means anything

UPDATE im now getting a prompt for a un and pass but my admin un and pass are not working? i cannot highlight and copy in the prompt window how do i copy that info aside from typeing it all

Sounds like permissions are hosed in either/both IIS and on the file-level.

When you go into your Services control panel and sort them by Startup Type, how many services are set to Automatic but are not running? More than one? Is anything IIS related working at all?

I don't think this is something that can easily be troubleshot on a forum. I'd advise you to either find someone to work remotely with or reinstall the SBS Server from scratch and only use the wizards to configure things. It sounds like the server is a ways off from the default (or wizard-guided) settings.

if i reinstall will i be able to create the same domain name?
is anyone willing to connect remotely and give it a whirl i have pcanywhere setup on it, i prefer to use it so i can see what is being done

reinstall has begun thanks for all the help check back uppdates on the reinstall

ok the errors i got were the dhcp error that says it gets its ip address from another dhcp server as opposed to using the built in one of sbs 2003, i got a client deployment error for oulook 2003 cause i dont have the disk, and and intranet error it said it could not install sharepoint service for some reason. what are these things

Your server should have a static IP address. And it's best to handle giving out DHCP addresses to clients from your server, not from the router, so that should explain those messages.

I think that normally during SBS setup one of the disks copies the Outlook 2003 install files to the ClientApps folder on the server. If you didn't do that, you can expect the errors you are getting.

If you have a real set of SBS disks, you shouldn't get that error or the SharePoint error. I've never seen them even after the 50+ installs I've done or helped with.

You probably don't need SharePoint, but the fact that it's failing to install suggests that you still have issues with IIS, since SharePoint is built on that. Are you able to supply all the disks that the installation asks you for, or are you canceling out of the install at a certain point? Once you are done with the install, run the wizards: the Connect to Internet wizard and any other that you need. To create users, use the Create User wizard in that console. Do everything you need to do through the console if possible.

nope, no canceling yes, i have all the disks, i didnt see the install for outlook i will look again. im running all my updates on a fresh install as im posting now, it successfully installed sharepoint sp2 maybe that has something to do with it, and make it work. ill post back after all updates are done. id like to thank all you guys for the help im new to this stuff and im looking to learn about all this stuff. im currently a desktop support guy i know xp and what not but not server stuff and im looking to learn.

if i figured out a way to put the server near the switch would i need to another reinstall or is it possible to run the dhcp server wizard now?
