Hello All,

Is it possible to bypass the need for a user to grant permission to run remote tools on their PC? We'd like to be able to access the clients remotely even when a user is not available...

Thanks,

Jay

BE CAREFUL!, make sure you have agreed a policy for your business, as snooping peoples machines with personal docs could be harshly looked upon, anyway...It depends if you have the ask users permission box ticked in your client configuration settings, if so, everytime you connect you get the dialog box. But you can still get around that because if you can edit the registry remotely, then you can change the value for the key:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Client\Client Components\Remote Control PermissionRequired key, change the value to 0.
This way, you have a policy on place, and there is a work round if you want to rc servers etc.

Thanks for the reply Mojo31! You have a very good point concerning viewing user's PCs without their permission. The term "Big Brother" has been used with some frequency by end users where I work... =)

Thanks again,

Jay

There is a setting on the server that allows you to turn OFF asking for permission.
Go to:
Site Settings | Client Agents | Remote Tools Client Agent. Right mouse for Properties and select the Policy tab. At the bottom of screen is your choice.

Also, in the same Properties window, the General tab has a setting to not allow the clients to change security Policy or Notification settings.

Our LAN is a business network, not personal computers and at times various users do question this. We remind them of company/network resource usage, email, data, software and hardware policy on a quarterly basis.

Thanks KBS, and I totally agree with you regarding the use of business property!
