Once SMS was turned on the clients started logging in and there were a handful of clients whose machines were freezing up on them. They all had the same scenario. Remote Tools was showing a Install Pending. This was left alone for a 24 hour period. Any ideas on what caused remote tools to hang? We have turned it off for now but will move forward if we can get a resolution.

I am hoping that someone can help me out. We let SMS settle out for about a week then turned SMS back on. The Remote tools is stating install pending or failed. Can anyone help me out with this?

We ran into this problem on a few clients when upgrading from SMS 1.2 to SMS 2.0. The previous SMS 1.2 remote control could not be replaced. We had to get rid of all SMS 1.2 client folders and SMS registry entries (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SMS) on these subject PC's and then reinstall the SMS 2.0 client.
If you are not upgrading from SMS 1.2, then you might want to try installing the remote control client from one of your CAP's. Try running \\XXX\CAP_YYY\clicomp.box\remctrl\i386\remctrl.exe on the client where XXX is the server name of one of your CAP's and YYY is your site code.
Tom Thaden
thadents@usano.ksc.nasa.gov

hey dingeman...what is the clean client utility. I have not heard of that.

1. Install Support

2. Run (Drive letter):\Program Files\SMS 2.0 Supportability Files\Reskit\Bin\I386\Cleancli.bat

3. Restart the system

4. Delete C:\windows\SMS folder

5. Reinstall SMS client
Thanks...Ed
I have seen this happen in a couple of very specific instances. The common thread was that they both occured in upgrade situations where a central server was upgraded before a child site, so the two versions were not in sync. Make sure that you are running v2.0 SP1 on all systems. Once I had all my servers upgraded, I did not encounter the problem again.
DrLove

MCSE + I
