I also have win 2k server - it is there but not with win 2k pro. Can i just share it with win 2k server?
Thanks.

Hello

The Terminal services host is not included with Windows 2000 Professional, but a Windows 2000 Professional machine can certainly connect to a Windows 2000 Terminal server.

If you want a remote control facility for a Windows 2000 Professional machine, check out

thanks!
Where can I find the steps to setting up "terminal services" on a win 2k server?

hi:
I have a home network (one pc and one web server) win 2k pro and win2k server. I can ping each other - but when i go to the network places on my desktop - i cannot see each other - even though i can ping each other. They both have the same workgroup name - tlmweb, but cannot see them on the same network. why?

I was running into the same problem as you.
-- Check to see if you can browse to that computer \\Computername\Shared folder
-- Could be because both machines are logged on as Admin's
-- Did you set up the File Sharing...
-- make a user account that can log on to both machines..

Just a couple of Idea's..

WindowsGuy,

Also make sure your TCP/IP stack has Netbios enabled on it and it can take up to 2 hours for the computers to list themselves, and the counter restarts if you reboot. Set your W2K Server as the Master Browser (or make sure it is the only one). If you need help on that, check faq96-3728

sorry - I should also mention that i have a router that assigns private IP addresses to the 2 PC'S.

I am having difficulties getting "terminal services" set up on my tiny network? I HAVE 2 PC'S(WIN 2K)AND ONE SERVER(WIN 2K SERVER). Tell me do I need to disable "netbios" to have termional services to work? I have a router that lets me share internel connections on my lan, this is causing me problems - right.

Your router shouldn't be causing those problems. I am assuming it doubles up as a switch for the network with DHCP server for the IP addressing. As an aside, I would try and move the server to a fixed IP with port redirection on the router if you are running externally accessible services on it, or at least set an IP reservation so that the server always gets the same IP, but that's another question.

You shouldn't need to disable NetBIOS to get terminal services to work at all. There should be no problem connecting from the internal network providing that terminal services is switched on and appropriate user accounts have been granted access. I'm not sure of the exact functionality on Win2000 server, but on 2003 server it will only run in remote administration mode after 120 days unless you apply a terminal services license pack to it. I assume there is something similar under 2000.
If however you want to connect from external sites into your server, you have to open port 3389, which is used by the RDP protocol, and forward it to port 3389 at the server's IP in the router configuration.
