We are looking for solutions for some of our off site employees and I came across ideas suggesting using IP phone 46Xx series. My question is : what do we need to have in terms of configuration on the CM or on the phone in order to have this work?
We are on CM version 5.2.
Any help is much appreciated.

You will need a few things Do you already have IP Phones installed where your CM is ? Are the remote people going to be in the same location or in various locations?
Do you have a Medpro & Clan boards available ?

We have IP phone 1616 series on our CM. the remote users are going to be in different locations.
We have a MEDpro $ Clan boards available.
Thanks for your help

Hi Amoosh,

You would need to have the following.

* External VPN applicance gateway. ( you may have this or you would need to buy one. ) * You would need to setup a TFTP server or modify an existing one to down load the Avaya VPN client software on the phone.

See this link for the software and documentation.

If you have any other questions. Don't hesitate to ask.

Is it possible to do it without a VPN hardware?
Thanks

It's a new office so we are thinking of a cisco hardware VPN.
How is it possible that someone at home manages to use a 46XX phone ?
Thanks

Home phone, you would load the VPN FW onto the 4610. You may have to do that for this office, if there is no fixed network link.

What about Onex Communicator or Avaya Softphone? Call quality is the same. If you go with hard phone or softphone it's all about the user's ISP.
