Hi there, i have a customer that has a CS1000 system and they want to extend their system over a fiber backbone to a location about 1/4 mile away. I have worked on fiber remotes in the past, but only on 81c systems to option 11 remote cabinets using FPEC and FNET cards, but never on a CS1000 system and was wondering what would the hardware configuration consist of from a CS1000 chassis to a remote CS1000 chassis ? Thanks for any help!!

forgot to mention, this is a 4.5 E/T system being upgraded to 5.0/5.5 not sure which.

The fiber remote stuff as far as I know isn't supported any more. You would do it via IP with a remote media gateway. Upgrading to 5.0 or 5.5 when 7.5 is out? They must have had that software for a long time.

I just installed a fiber remote and carrier remote. I was not aware that they are not supported.

Installation was the same as you remember.

Hi, thanks for the response. To answer some questions.....

The system is a 1000E, and yes the customer purchased the upgrade to 5.5 some time ago. But even though 7.5 is out, 5.5 is still better than this dang 4.5 E/T system.

So if the install is the same, then that would be great. Do you think i could one of the spare media gateway chassis' i have along with an FPEC card? The user only needs to be able support a few dozen phones.

You would use either an MG1000 or MG1010 CS1000E Chassis...which is IP enabled. The fiber would be used to extend the LAN to the new location to drive a network switch where the MG1000/1010 is connected...or just use the existing network connections.

Hope that helps clear it up...
