I am a small business owner with a Lucent Merlin Legend System that I adopted when I purchased the company 4 years ago. We want the system to ring 3 times before it goes to the Automated Attendant and 3 times before it goes to voice mail. It takes 9 rings for this currently. Is this something that I can change easily?

Where does it ring 9 times - at the phone(s)? autoattendant, or both combined. How many rings currently at each location (at the phone and at the autoattendant)? You may have a "delay" set up in voice mail. You may also have an overflow group setup with a built-in delay before the call goes to the autoattendant. To know what you have setup - it is best to do a "print all" out of WinSPM - if you have that software. You could also log into the voicemail and see if it is setup for immediate answer, or delayed answer. It's hard to give advice when the setup is not known.

Thanks for your response. This software looks like it would be a good thing to have. I am going to purchase that from and get the setup data unless you have a better suggestion.

Actually, it can be had by visiting Avaya's web site and getting (I beleive) WINSPM 4 or 5 and then upgrading, one step at a time with upgrades from their site as well.

Other threads used to have more info on this.

You can get it for free from the avaya.com website. Download version 5 - which is a complete install (should be about an 11 mb file). You can then download and execute successive patches to get it to the Release 9 version - which is the latest. You will also need a 355AF adapter and a db9 to db25 serial cable to connect from your computer (db9 end) to the 355AF (db25 end). From the 355af you run a standard straight through lan patch cable to the admin port on the processor. Or, connect to an 012 or 016 T/R card via modem from the computer.

I have searched the Avaya website and can only find the patches no full WinSPM R4 or R5. Any help finding it is appreciated.

It is called a "patch". Just download the release 5.0 software patch and install it. Once installed, download the succesive patches - starting with the R6.0 patch thru the newest R9.0 patch.

Thanks for the help Tom. This worked great. I now have WinSPM R9 on my PC.

Thank you,

Roy

Thanks Tom. I have downloaded the software and I am working on getting the hardware now.

Tom,

I have a 940-0095A 9-pin Male to Female adapter and a 25 pin converter. Local store has a 9 pin male to rj-45 adapter in stock. Will this work or do I need specific cables?

Doug

Sorry. I just figured out that I got my sexes mixed up. Can I use a 9 pin male cable into a 9pin female adapter and then run the network cable to the admin port? Do I need a 25 pin connection?

You need a db9 female from the computer serial port to a db25 male (or use a DB9 to DB25 adapter) to the 355AF adapter. From the adapter, run a LAN patch cable to the processor admin port. You need the 355AF adaptor for the connection to work. You can purchase one at any Avaya dealer or over the internet (check froogle). The alternative is to connect via an 012 or 016 T/R module from your computer's modem. Those are the two connection options in WinSPM.
