Remote office ideas?

I was just informed that within the next 30 days, I will need to provide telephone services to a remote office that was recently purchsed. The office is actually across the street from our main building, however there are no connections between the two.

The only services we have at the new building are through the PSTN. I would like to eventually extend fiber in a conduit to this building, however, the cost and lead time prevent this from being available in the short term.

We are currently using a Definity G3SI R11 and I would like a solution that integrates easily with the existing switch.

So my question(s) to the group is(are):
-What are my options for remote office connectivity?
-Is it possible to have existing extensions seemlessly moved to the remote office?

Would you be doing any data connections? i.e. directional wifi or other? If you have a network connection between the two buildings you can do ip telephony. 4600 series phones with a medpro and clan. Cost for the equipement may be around $6,000 to $10,000 though. If the have POTS lines you can setup each extension with ec500 exts. The only bad thing is that their outgoing cid would be off your did range, unless you can get the lec to change that. The remote office users would have to dial the entire DID to get the main office.

In the future everything will work...

JediBMC,

i guess if the new office is across the street there should be direct clear radio path between your buildings so you can just set up a radio relay. from my experience i can recommend western multiplex ones, had them in my zoo and never any problem.

How many phones will be needed? What type? and for how long? What features will be important to these employees?

We are still trying to establish how we will interconnect the two facilities. At this point, I am leaning towards utilizing either laser/microwave between the facilities or a couple of point-to-point DS1.

Initially, they are requesting services for 10 employees. I have a feeling, however, that it will grow to 20 before the building is well connected.

As for the services necessary, the users will need voicemail, the ability to easily dial extensions in the Definity, transfer calls, and maintain their existing extensions/DIDs.

OPX off premise extension..it's basically a amplified dry pair extended by the co...terminated in your MDF and connected to a port off your switch that you connect a phone too on the other end...there is a cost associated with it. talk to your service provider rep.

Good 'ol Call-Extenders... you just need analog lines. If you have 10 people, 10 lines. This is the easiest and quickest of all deployments without any (V/D) network in place.

Will they have access to email? If so, how? Because you may be able to leverage your internet service as well.

Hope this helps, as always - I have call-extenders very cheap...

Thanks,
Chris

What 98 said. Except I would recommend going with the IP Branch office version of the extender. You wont need the dedicated lines that way and will only use 32K of data bandwidth for every person on a call. It's also supports 12 phones per unit. Those stand alone units can get a little crazy with all of the power adapters on each end.
