Hello everyone. I have a issue that i need help with. I have a customer with a IPO 500 with embedded VM running 5.0 and I have no way to remotely access the system. What i usually do is use like logmein or a program like that installed on the VM PRO server to access the system and make changes. Any thoughts. Thanks John

tlpeter I think that ISDN in north america was no success because it was not neccessary for some of the features that ISDN provides. I have never seen one here I have to admit (except if the MLX phone interface counts :) ) and at first I thought I am missing out on technology, but the analog lines can do quite some tricks here just to let our European friends know.
I can get 3 phone numbers on one analog line if I want to, with different ringing signals to differentiate them (OK I can only make one call at the time instead of 2 with ISDN :-(). I can transfer calls on the same line to anywhere by just creating a flash signal on the line and dialing the number so I can transfer calls to my cell phone if I like and some voicemails and phone systems can do it too so you have no loss on the call quality and don't need to do it manually.
So much for analog lines in North America, hope I don't bore you guys with this but I know that I was surprised by those features when I arrived here.

Like not working at all ? :)

Over they probably can do that too but they do not want to
It is very old technic
If you can do a transfer on that line that only means you are doing a transfer like you do it on a pbx which ofcourse the provider is :)
The biggest disadvantage is that for every trunk you need 2 wires and if they are not there you have a problem

analog lines still work with static (slight handicap if you are on a call) when ISDN lines have already given up the connection and don't work at all any more or drop your calls. So old technique is not neccesarily bad. I miss my old phone systems where you fix parts (sometimes with a hammer ;-) )rather then replace.
But I know that you can get 10 numbers on a BRI with two channels. So ISDN is better then analog for the number of wires per phone call but it has also some down sides, it needs more care in maintaining the wiring and the way sometimes the wiring is done here is to loop the same cable with open ends into a whole lot of buildings on the same street and you just tap into the pair you need, if you get the wrong pair then you get the number from down the street and crank up their phone bill :)
Open ends are bad for the ISDN connections (as far as I remember) so that is another reason why they did not get out of the starting block here.
But whatever one is used to seems the easier type of line.
