i would like to be able to remotely log a user off, this is easy, but then i also would like to remotely log a use on. I am trying to use this to control who can access a computer and when for use in our internet cafe business. as of right now there is no way to control the time a user is on the computer. i have seen some other programs do this but i can't seem to find them or figure out how the work. i can log a user off(remote task manager, cool remote manager, sleepy, and shutdown.exe but i can not log someone on to a machine. any help or suggestions would be nice.

Why do you need to log someone on remotely? (if they're going to use machine, can't they log themselves on?)

You could use a remote control app (I don't use the one that comes with XP so don't know if its appropriate - but Remote Administrator would let you do this. Don't know if vnc would).

i guess i don't need to log them on remotely, but i do need to prevent someone from loggin on with out paying or without permission.

You can get applications for internet cafes that probably do this kind of thing. Don't know much about them though.

Alternatively you could look at AD. That will allow you to manage the clients centrally, controlling the times they can be logged in or locking out accounts if necessary.

What you need, sounds like, is a "kiosk" program. It is a restricted browser that will not let the user quit it, it can have user level access with logging and payment processing if needed. Search google for them.
Ever go to Barnes and Nobles and see there web browsers that query there database? That is like what I am talking about. Very restrictive and the user cannot get to the desktop.

Use VNC and setup accounts for computer A, B, C, etc. Then just give the useer the password. To make it simple on yourself make the password the login or better yet the logout time. Then watch the clock. KISS principle-get a kitchen timer for each computer that you keep at your desk or set an alarm in Outlook or some other program. When the alarm goes off let the person know that time is up (or maybe 3 minutes ahead of time). Then change the password for the next user. Too big off a hassle, then look for some KIOSK software as previously mentioned.

Sorry i haven't responded my network crashed.
VNC viewer is exactly what i need(so far), i have a ticket printed out when the cashier clicks on ok and then it will open the vnc viewer for the computer i have selected. only thing i need to do now is make a timer for the remote computer that can get the aloted time and show a timer in the window and also update on the last 3 min if additional time was purchased. not sure how to do that if you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thanx Everyone

Have you looked at NAT32?

It is already configured to have timed disconnect, and has an API interface for programmers if you need this.

Screenshot in an internet cafe setting and info:
Very inexpensive application.
