Remote IP phone

Greetings all,
I have a customer who has remote workers.
He want them to use IP 9608 phones at home.
His IP Office is Release 8.1
He thinks there is a way to do it with a built-in VPN that the phone has to connect to IP office.
I have only done this using a hardware VPN_ like Firewall to Firewall -
Is there a way to do this using just the phone and the IP office?

No is the easy answer.

Yes is far more difficult. It requires a proper VPN functionality on your firewall where the IP Office is located and a lot of work to setup and even then you are subject to the end users internet connection and there is no guaranteed QoS (it's over a vpn )
