Having success with establishing a connection between modems but the characters that are showing up in hyperterminal looks like this...

€ø€ø€ø€ø€ø€ø€ø

I'm using the same hyerterminal window i use with direct connection.

I'm using an US Robitics Sportster faxmodem with x2

all dip-switches but 3 and 5 are down.

are you accessing at 9600 8 bits no parity and VT100 emulation?

When i obtain a connection i hit enter 4 times and this pops up

Force the USR to connect at 9600

if you have access to Mitel on Line there is a bulletin on complete modem setup for the ICP

this is from a Mitel bulletin, there may be other ways also, this supersedes one Mitel put out in 2004.

The following cabling and AT command set are to be used when connecting an AT command compatible modem to the SX200 ICP. Our examples use USR 33.6 and V.92 modems. If you have a different modem that supports the AT command set, consult your modem manufacturer to determine the correct equivalent settings for that modem.

Step 1: Verify your USR 33.6 or V.92 modem register bits are setup as follows. To determine the modem's current settings, connect the modem to a laptop at 9600 8N1 with a straight through cable. Before powering on the modem, set dip switches 1,3 and 8 down, the rest of them up.

Step 2: To alter the register, type the command prefix at, followed by the register letter and desired value. For example, if the modem had register f set to 0, register x set to 4 and register &N set to 0, those registers need to change.
You can change each register individually:

check modem settings. Hyperterminal was ok as I missed the part where you said you can connect directly and it works ok.

You need to change the modem settings. I copied your last reply and added where you need to look. The entries that are red are what you currently have and the green values are what you need to change to. I duplicated each line in bold from what Mitel says it should be. If you read above, you will see how to prepare the modem with dip switches and a serial connection to make the changes below. Good Luck!
