hey guys, i'm looking for a free remote desktop software which i can use for accessing other computersystems over the internet.

I'm trying to help my friend out who is located in a different city then me.

System: WinXP pro

I use VNC realvmc.com, All our PC's have vnc installed from the corp. ghost install.

VNC is free, did you even look at the site?

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

last time I used VNC (albeit UltraVNC), it had the ability to transfer files.

If I need to transfer files I just Email them or upload them to my FTP server and get them that way.

i've downloaded albeit UltraVNC and give it a try. also i found 2 others online and i'll try that out too. the hamachi.cc website i can't access from work so i'll check this out when i get home.

thanks for your help guys,...

Does your friend run XP, if so you could just use XP's Remote Assistance?

Remote Assistance and Windows XP

If not you can have a look at using Window's NetMeeting.

How to Use Remote Desktop Sharing in NetMeeting

well i have tried to install netmeeting but it don't let me install cause of the reason that i run windows xp (makes no sense).

we tried remote assistance but it didn't worked out for some reason. i think it was user error on my friends side so i got frustrated with him.
--------------------------------------------

i installed VNC Free Edition 4.1.2 on my computer and my laptop. so correct me if i'm doing this wrong since i dont have no manual.

I run VNC Listener on my computer, and VNC Server on my friedns computer (in this case my other remote laptop)

On the Latop (VNC Server) i atempt to connect "new connection" and type in the IP address.

result it connected straight to my computer. I think since he have different subnet that i just add " ../subnet.subnet.subnet.subnet" ....

this should do it, or am i'm wrong.... it's kind of late and my head was bombed with user errors today so fellows forgive me if i got it wrong...

You can't install NetMeeting because it's already part of XP. However, you do need to configure it.

1) Enter 'Start > Run > conf.exe'.

2) When the NetMeeting configuration dialog appears, click 'Next'.

3) Enter whatever you like for 'First name' and 'Last name'. Enter just an '@' symbol for the email address. This will activate the 'Next' button so click on the Next button, then again.

4) Select the connection speed then keep clicking on the 'Next' buttons then on the 'Finish' button.

MetMeeting is now ready.

Hope this helps...
