Neil you confused me alittle...i want to remote into a 2000 server from my home or office but instead of a seperate session i want to log onto the console so i can running my backup program. And before you ask i need to have access to the console for all the features to work properly so a seperate session will not work already tried.
Windows 2000 will allow Terminal Services in Remote Administration mode, but that will create a seperate session. Maybe you want to look into VNC which will access the console.
Sorry Cojast, read it like you wanted to remote login to the machine you were sat at. You will need a third party remote viewer....VNC is the most common, and has been around for many many years. Very good program
I am already using vnc but it is secure and i know that you can make it secure but you have to jump through hoops to do it. I just want something basic that i can give to my employees so they can use it.
If you use the enterprise version, it doesn include session encryption and can use normal domain level permissions, so it is as secure as your password policy (digital and social). There is no REAL way of easily hacking a VNC line, or making any use of intercepted data. If the server is on the internet directly, it is just as accessable via other undisclosed means.
Short answer is YES...but deffinative, I can't say.
Hope this Helps.

Will that work for you ? I do it sometimes but when that doesn't work, I log into the user using the remote management card on my servers which allows me to bypass terminal services.
