Remote Desktop 2

I am not able to login to the windows 2003 server through Remote desktop. It was working fine but now whenever I try to connect through the remote desktop, it connects but everyever I try to login it gives me an error message.
"To log on to this remote computer, you must have terminal server user access permission on this computer. If you are not a member of the remote desktop users gruop or another group that has these permission, or if the remote desktop user group does not have these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually."

I have added myself in a Local users groups but still it is not working. I have added myself in the RDC security and have myself given full control, still does not work.

PLease help.

Right-click My Computer/Properties/Remote
check the box for allow these users to log on remotely. Also make sure your user account is added to the Remote Desktop Local Group.

I have exactly the same issue. I have been using Remote Desktop for some time now. Nothing changed as far as I konw. Now I get the message after I connect:

I have the allow Remote checked in System and also the account is in the Remote Desktop Local Group.

Possibly thats the case. What do I need to do. There is only one connection using Remote desktop to this server at any time. I don't need to buy licenses in that case, right?

The setup is purely in a test environment and the server is installed in a workgroup, no domain.

You get 120 days to obtain licensing - if it's past that point, thats your problem.

pbxman is right, unless you're using it for remote administration. Then you don't need to be licensed or have a licensing server. Try running your mstsc like this from the command line...

mstsc /console /v:ServerName

If you want to use a specific RDP profile it would be

mstsc ServerName.RDP /console

If you're planning on putting these systems directly on the internet, I would lock it down significantly.

On a trusted network segment though I wouldn't think there's anything else you need to be aware of.

so, I'm a little confused.. is there no way to just enable terminal services and use it for remote administration only, without that command line business? Your little blurb shows it specifying the console only.

What I want to accomplish is.. there's never more than 2 or 3 admins on a particular box(developing, working, troubleshooting etc) actually.. currently, there's never more than 2 because we dont use the console.

All I want is the RDC functionality I have with my windows 2000 boxes. These are not multi user platforms, but I don't want to buy a TS license.

If you just want to use remote administration mode, then you turn it on, exactly the same way as XP. 'My Computer' properties, then the remote tab.

We have Win2003 serving a group of developers running as DC, File Server, VSS, and SQL. Any of us can RDP into the server without any problems as long as we are members of the administrators group. Every time we bring in a new user I try to make them a member of groups: developer and remote desktop users, but they get the same "To log on to this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow..." error. I'd really like to be able to have them get into RDP without making everyone an admin. Any ideas?
