I am using remote desktop into a terminal services win2k server. I then remote desktop from the server to my dektop. Whenever I use this my icons on my desktop shift apparently due to screen size adaptation. Is there anyway I can lock the icons on the dektop? The function on the actual desktop does not work, they still move. Thanks, Daren

Let me understand the problem a little better. You are running W2K Server with Terminal Services running on the W2K Server.

From your remote can I assume you are running XP and running Remote Desktop Connection to access the W2K Server?

Further, in this configuration are you then trying to run a Remote client from the W2K Server back to the XP box?

Which desktop icons are you refering to when to talk about shifting icons? The ones that appear in the Remote Desktop Connection window or the ones that exist on your XP Desktop?

Sorry for the detail? Just trying to understand the specifics to see if I can help.

I am going from an xp laptop to win2k server to xp desktop. The icons are arranged then they go to a different arrangement every time I access them.

THe icons that are moving, are they on the laptop?

No. They are on the host machine (desktop)

I am trying to isolate and test with our system here. Sorry for the detailed questioning.

So, from the laptop via the the Desktop Connection to the W2K (host) the icons move within the Desktop Connection. When you disconnect, do the icons on the host stay in the new location as a result of moving? or is it just through the Desktop Connection? and when viewing the icons through the connection are the moving slightly or are they stacking on top of each other or totally moving about?

Sorry for the detailed questions, I trying to determine if the problem is on the host side or the laptop side.

I have a 19" flat panel with icons on both sides of it. When I connect in they all move to the left hand side. Does that make sense? Daren

I sorry, but I still am not sure what is going on. Please correct my understanding if it is wrong.

Question 1) Via the the Desktop Connection to the W2K (host) the only icons moving are within the Desktop Connection Window only, True or False

Question 2) When you disconnect the Desktop Connection, the icons on the physical monitor for the host stay in the new location as a result of moving. True or False

Question 3) When viewing the icons through the Desktop Connection the icons move to the left. True or False

Question 4) The Flat Planel is the laptop monitor. True or False

Quetion 5) The icons on the physical monitor for the W2K System NEVER move. True or False

Question 6)The normal icons on the laptop when the Desktop Connection is connected and minimized do not move. True or False

Sorry, I am trying to isolate the issue

1.) Laptop to server no icons move.
2.) True
3.) True
4.) False, The flat panel is on the host
5.) TRue
6.) True

Just to clarify another thing. I vpn into the server and then jumper from the server to a workstation via remote desktop. Thanks alot for the help! Daren

I know you must think I'm crazy, but a few more questions. to assist me in understanding what your doing.

You Remote from the laptop to the Server (W2K). Once connected, you then Remote from the Server (W2K) to somewhere else? (back to the laptop or another workstation)

Is this correct?

______ ______ _______

Laptop Remote W2K Remote Another
Server Computer

The icons on the laptop are fine. (i.e. after remoting no icons move).

After you remote into the Server, then connect to the other computer, the icons move on the Server.

Is this correct?
