Hi Guys
I just built a Win2k server box. I could connect to it using remote desktop connection from other pc's on my network without any problems.
the problem started when I added it to the domain. when I try and connect to it I get the following error message

the client could not establish a connectio to the remote computer

1)Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote computer
2) the maximum number of connections was exceeded at the remote computer

I've checked in terminal services manager - there aren't any sessions that are logged on.

Also when go in the system properties the remote tab doesn't appear - and there's not remote desktop users group.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look under the Terminal Services Profile Tab under the domain account that you are trying to RDP with. Make sure the check box ALLOW LOGON TO TERMINAL SERVER is checked. If its not checked, check it and try to RDP again

Hope that Help!

It was already checked. I unticked it and tried again and got the following message

the remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol

Thanks for your help

Double check your group policies. There is a policy inplace that is keeping the TS from working. Are you trying to RDP with the servers administrators account?

Argh! Some PLEASE help with this, it is now insanity.

We have a Server 2000 box with TS. CAL's are licensed. The system is NOT a Licensing Server.

Out of approximately 100 people in the company, TWO can log in using RDP.

HERE IS THE KICKER: When at the Server 2000 system, if you look into Services....TERMINAL SERVER IS STOPPED. If you try and start it, it will tell you in so many words: "Sorry...can't find a Licensing Server".

Again, and this is important: remember that two people can log into this very same box. (Could their credentials be cached???).

Thank you! This is driving me nuts.

Sounds like the server is only running Terminal Server for Admin (max 2 connections). In which case you have to install Terminal Server through Add \ Remove Programs, Add \ Remove Windows components.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Do you have a License Server? It may be out of temp licenses cause it cant find a license server
