I preconfigured a remote desktop connection to distribute to some users on my network. In the preconfigured connection I have saved the user name and password. After distributing the preconfigured connection I found that the distributed connections retained all of the configurations except the password. I do not want my LAN users in this case to have to type a password. They need to be able to simply click on the connection icon and launch directly to the terminal server and into the application. Does anyone know where the Remote Desktop Connection Tool stores user passwords, or how I can get a preconfigured connection to retain the password?

Thanks,
Greg

open notepad/file/open/browse for the connection.RDP

it contents is ASCII, sothen you can see/edit the user and password (encoded of course)

but maybe this is enaugh for you to make a solution

It never occurred to me that you might be able to edit the RDP file with notepad.

It looks like the encryption of the password is probably specific to the logon. From a single user account I can copy and paste the password (encrypted) into a new RDP file and connect just fine. If I log on as a different user and paste that same password (encrypted) into a new RDP connection it does not work. Also, looking at the encrypted password from several RDP connections from different accounts, the encryptions were all differnet even though the password I used was the same.

I am not sure if there is any way around this issue, but now knowing were the password is stored has helped me figure that out. Thanks.
