I am looking for a (infrared) remote Control for my PC.
I bought already the X-Point of Grandtec, but this was device misses a main feature I need(even if written on the package):
It must be possible to program each individual button on that remote control with a Keyboard-Shortcut like F2 or Ctrl-X.
Can anybody suggest any other device which can do that, and/or has additionally USB Support, and is XP compatible?
Any answer is greatly appreciated...

thanks®ards

I don't know of anything, but I'm just curious, what do you need the remote for? Presentations or something? Just wondering...

I think they computer companies should make like a remote pda thing where you see your screen on a small lcd screen and you can do things from away from the pc. WHat you would need this for. I have no idea.

Try the irman from emation.com. This is a infrared box that hooks to your serial port and lets you use pretty much any remote control with it (such as your TV's remote). It also comes with a few programs like WinLIRC which lets you program any button on that remote or any number of remotes to different functions in Windows or many programs like Winamp. Works very well. Plus, it's cheap and doesn't tie you down to one remote. I used it with a multi-device universal remote and set the diferent devices on the remote to different programs on the computer (winamp, powerdvd, etc).

hi there,

Thanks a lot for all your tips, i finally found one:

this thing is programmable, but one thing is i do still miss:

i want to program keystroke sequences onto the several buttons.
Imagine e.g. in Excel i want to program on the same button:
Alt-T, Alt-O, Alt-F...

does anybody know a software which is able to do that, e.g. map exisiting keys on the keyboard?
I found one which is able to map just single keys, but NOT keystrokes...

thanks again,
stonee
