Remote Control not working on part of 2 segments. SMS client uninstalled/reinstalled. Did not work. One segment is at a remote location and another is local. All else performing fine on over 500 clients. Troubleshooting suggestions? They show up in collection o.k.

what does the log-file say (admin$\ms\sms\logs\remctrl.log) ?

chris

I checked my log (I have the Admin console installed on my workstation) as well as on the server. I looked through the swamp of things there and found nothing that I thought referenced my trying to remote one of the systems on that segment. I tried it once again before I looked at the logs. What am I looking for?

md2020,
the log on one of the clients not working properly should provide you with more information (you do not really need the AdminConsole for this).
Connect to one the failing machine and open up the log.
there you should find something like this:
__________

Performing a VERIFY type installation
Starting install.log
Successfully notified SMS that installation has not completed.
Remote Control Installation starting.

Hope this clears it out a bit for you ;)

When installing the client (even though it messages back that the installation was complete) this is what shows up in the wnmanual log file. There is no remctrl.log file. The installation is being done at a remote location from a file on our local server. So we know we have connectivity.

Current environment variable SMS_LOCAL_DIR_USER set to C:\WINNT~ ....

md2020,
there seems to be a problem with you boundaries as the log states "Client is not assigned to any sites".

Check your boundaries -

Cheers,
Chris

We checked the boundaries and added the 2 partial segments addresses. Works like a champ. We had set them in the Network Discovery and thought that would do it. We don't have a child site and I assume that the boundaries helps you balance out the load to additional sites when necessary. Thanks so much for your help. ;)

md2020,
glad I could help you ;)

and...the postings have vanished - must be magic !

cheers,
chris
