I recently started working with a BCM. I am familiar enough to get the unit working as well as getting an IP phone to work when plugged into the Lan that the BCM is connected to.
My problem is connecting from a remote location. Does the BCM require it's own Static IP address? I have a static IP address assigned to my router. Then the BCM is the DMZ device. But I can't get the phone to find the BCM. Can anyone provide insite?

Hi TecTel,
I haven't worked on the BCM with IP sets but have worked extensivly with IP on the NEC. All IP applicances work the same, because it is just IP until it reaches the PBX. You will have to do either of the following

1) Apply a Static IP to the BCM and keep it in the DMZ. This is not the best way because the BCM is running Embedded NT it is suseptable to viruses.

2)Put the BCM on the local LAN with a local static IP, You will still require a Static IP on the Internet, but you can then point the external IP to the internal IP via the router programming.

3) The best way is to Put the BCM on the Local LAN with a Static IP, and have all remote user create a VPN connection back to the main site with the BCM, at this point users will have access to all ip addresses.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding. The parts you mentioned I already did. My problem is probably with the specific requirements of the BCM. For some reason the IP phone can't see the BCM. I can't ping it either.

Are you allowing the correct ports through on your router?

Which ports should I Check? Also I have been getting some conflicting information about the license that would be required. Is there any license other than the IP Client that would be required to get this to work?
