I am looking for a way, without using a specialized tool (like SMS), to install an application on a user's PC remotely. I don't really want to have to visit every workstation in my environment. I tried doing it through login scripts, but due to the access rights required for the installation it didn't work for a normal user. Is there any way to force the installation to use higher priviledges during the installation process?

Have you tried a startup script ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

I haven't - yet!! :) After doing some reading I think a Startup Script may do what I need. One question - do you (or anyone else) know if startup scripts can have net use commands in them? The app I want to install is stored opn a central file server, in a public location. What I'd like to do in the script is map the drive, install the app, then delete the mapping. I didn't have to worry about that when I tried the login script - that is where our mappings are typically set so I did the installation after the map was established.

Thanks,

Brian

We use startup .bat files to map drives. You can net use in them....

or simply put the path to the install in without mapping...

\\server\share\appinstall.exe

I've re-written the installation using a startup script - tested it here and it seems to work! Thanks for the pointers!
