We have veritas backup exec 8.6 for win2k server. We have installed remote agent for winnt/2000 on several workstation to backup system state info and various datafiles every night. These workstations are also joined to our domain. The problem is that we upgraded the workstations, gave them completely new computer names and our backup logs still point to the old workstation names.

example:
Unable to attach to \\PIII866-A\C$
The item was not found

That was the old name of the workstation...

is their any way to to remove the old workstation from the veritas database? Thanks in advance

Try the following

1. Create a new backup job.
2. Can you see the new computer names through Network Neighbourhood?
3. Stop Backup Exec services, rename the Backup Exec data directory and restar tthe backup exec services.

If none of the above resolve the issue let me know.

Warining renaming the data directory will erase all you current jobs they will have to be recreated.

Thanks for the response...we're already tried to delete the backup but these phantom workstations keep re-appearing. We can definitely see the workstations in net neighborhood. I am going to hold off on renaming the data directory...we have an upgrade planned for this server in the near future and we'll do this then. Thanks.

Go into your job defenitions, choose the job you want to alter, selections tab, and choose the Display "text version". It then gives you the option to delete those old names you don't want.

Hope this helps!

That seems like it will work. When backups happen tonight I'll see the logs monday morning and post a follow-up. Thanks.

Thanks it worked...the old workstations aren't coming up in the logs anymore.
