What's the best way to install remote backup agent to other servers on the network for Backup Exec V9.

I have more trouble trying to push the agent from the media server. Don't know why but I do.

It seems I have much better luck when doing the command line install from the server I want the remote agent install on.

Thanks,

Mark

Choose the Tools>seruial number and licence >> follow the step >>

i use this method since it will roll out from one server

I have had alot of problems pushing out the remote agent in BE 9.0 to WinNT4 servers. Make sure that you are running Sp6 and have the latest version of MSI installer.

(Dont forget to reboot the NT4 servers after a command line remote agent install - as it will not prompt you!)

hello,
I have just upgraded to v9.0. and I also am having trouble putting the agent on the WinNt4 machines. ? What is the best way. I do not know how to do the command line remote agent install. Even though I push from the backup machine, it says it installed, but the job fails. help me please ! blonde

Hi,

I've just done a BE9.0 install to backup remote servers (both NT4 and W2K.) I found the best way to get the agent on is to 'pull' the install from the remote server.

To do this, from the remote server:
Map a drive to the backup servers install drive
in a command prompt, on the mapped drive cd \program files\veritas\backup exec\nt\agents\rant32from this directory type setup.exe /RANT32: -s

After a minute, check the services, you should find the Backup exec remote agent client service there.

Hope this helps

Richardo

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.

I've had problems with the remote to my last NT4 server. Over the weekend, I read it suggested to copy the RANT dir (under the folder agents) to the target server and run the setup as Ricardo suggested locally. I just did this and plan to test with my backups tonight.

I followed Richardo's installation sequence and it worked on all of our NT4 and W2k servers, although some of the nt4 needed re service packing.

I spoke with the Veritas Engineers on this one and the recommedation for a remote agent that you don't need the open files option on is to copy the Rant32 folder to the root of the remote server and then at the command prompt type: setupaa

This will perform a silent install and does not require a reboot. Then on your media server, go into the Tools>serial number and license and go through a local install to add the licenses for the remote agents.
