I am trying to set up exchange admin to run on a machine other than the exchange server. Am using ver 5.5. I have program loaded on a BDC on the same domain, exchange is also running on a different BDC. I am able to contact the exchange server from my machine with outlook - no prob. BUT when I start exchange admin I get an error window that says "A connection could not be made to the Microsoft exchange server computer. The Microsoft exchange server computer does not respond. Microsoft Exchange Directory ID no: DS_E_COMMUNICTIONS_PROBLEM." I get the same error when I try to connect to the server through user manager for domains. I did a search on the net for Microsoft and the articles were of no help. Any ideas on where to go from here?

Well,

Being that more than one program is giving you trouble from this one machine, I'd look at the networking config.

Does Event Viewer on the second BDC show any network errors?

Can you ping the other system?

Can you do a "Net view \\server1"?

It looks to me like there is a security problem. Make sure the machine being used for Admin is logged in with Exchange Admin rights. Remember that the Exchange Admin rights are different to NT Admin Rights...

Are you running Windows NT Workstation or Server for the client machine?

The only way we could accomplish this was to use PCAny-Where. Not the best fix but it works.
