Remote access with external modem 1

Sorry guys, I tried to do a search, but I can find what I'm looking for.

I'd like to find a cheaper way to remote access my customer systems than the Remote PC card.

What exactly would be the best way to do remote programming, using the partner PC Administration soft wear?

All my customers are willing to transfer me to a external modem and most all of my sites have Voice Mail AA turned on at night so I do have 24 X 7 access.

If anyone could step by step explain the equipment needed / cabling / and procedure to access the system.
