Hi there

Had a bit of an issue with remote desktop/terminal services at the weekend!

Now we use terminal services in our office, but we also have a few clients and a weekend employee wjo dial in to our system!

now remote access is working fine from within the office and it works fine externally for me and my gaffer!

But one of our clients and our weekend calls administrator can access our system via VPN but cant get access to our appserver!

we are running server 2003 on our appserver!

heres a list of things ive checked

rebooted all servers
check all remote services
checked the ports on our router
checked the ip address's used for the remote access

are u sure they are using an IP address in order to access the server or are they using a hostname. It could be that they cannot resolve the name of your appserver.
Otherwise try checking your VPN server to see if there are any rules set that would not allow users to access.

Or you can try to delete the hardwareID from the local user regestry.

I had this issue and it solved the problem

Run Regedit

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing\HardwareID\
Delete the key ClientHWID

Hope this will solve your problem

Both the hostname and the IP address have been attempted - - its baffling to say the least!

Can you let me know what to check on the VPN server(which is our main server - server 2000 and sbs 2000)!

Thanks for the tip i will try this and let you know how i get on!

Hi again

forgot to mention that we have 10 terminal service user licenses!

Will this be affected if i delete the clientHWID key??

thanks

Steven

NO

it wont be affected cause the license are installed on the server and your local machine gest from the server a ID

HI there

i done this and still no joy, i also re-installed terminal services, gave the user administrative privileges, disabled caching

it seems that now the user gets a Grey screen, then an error message saying the connection to the remote computer was broken!

the event id is 1218

can someone please help me here as i need this fixed by 5Pm tonight

Thank you

The user has now logged in from a laptop in another part of the country, this has worked!

Got this is baffling stuff, another of our clients is still getting the Grey screen treatment, and the user mentioned above still gets the Grey screen from her own PC!

can someone please explain this as its going way over my head!

I'm running out of time

if your client is trying to login from her pc it might be just a resolution issue (if you didnt try it out yet)

Heres the error message my clients are receiving

The connection to the remote computer was broken. This may have been caused by a network error. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.

shall i delete the ts cals on the problem pcs or create new user profiles?

Thanks

Still no joy with this problem, i've scoured the web and ther si plenty about it but no solution, ive just updated the firmware on our linksys router wrt54g v 2.2

I jst cant get a grasp on anything regarding this because some users can access the system and others cant, could something be blocking the the clients ip addresses?

i also tried a fix on the web to delete certificates from the termservice registry but still no joy!

there must be someone out there who can help me resolve this problem!

Thanks again

Still nothing - - never had such an unbeatable problem!

Thanks anyway

Just got my client to connect via vpn and then ping the appserver

pinged it with no problems what so ever
