I have been asked to setup remote access on a hicom 340, I believe this uses a straight pin to pin RS232 lead.Is there a specific modem that should be used. I am not a Hicom 340 engineer, I used to work for Siemens many years ago, my last experience with a hicom is the 150.Any advice on pinouts and setup would be appreciated..,as a challenge, I also have to find out what the login is, any tips on that one please..ie...is there a default login? is there somewhere I can download a programming manual.

many thanks

Your headline says Hicom 300 and your body says Hicom 340. I never heard of the 340 so it's guesstimation here. If the system was installed by Siemens there should be either a Custom Callout Adapter or Monitor III on the system. That already contains a modem and you can dial in on that phone number. Depending on what hardware/software release you are on you can use a baud rate of 9600 - 115,200 (oldest - newest) at 8 N 1. For some of the access you need Procomm for Windows, and you need the "9006 System Disk" 3.5" floppy that has the pansi.kbd and pasni3.kbd files on it that do the key mappings for the strange function key layouts. For other stuff you might need LC-Win depending on what release of the switch you have.

For switch Admin you can use pretty much any modem - I have favored multitech and US Robotics. I am pretty sure the secret modem inside the custom callout adapter is made by USR.

As for a programming manual, this will get you started. It's the UK version of the manual but a lot of things are pretty similar. Look at the part about AMO Information for a general reference to the way the commands work.

There is no real standard for the login and password - most people that have it get it from the tech. There is a standard service login but the password is set by the service organization that does the work, so unless they give it to you your pretty much stuck there.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi,

many thanks for the info. However where do I get the manual from, initially one that I can download. Again thankyou for the info its excellent and will help.

Kind regards

Many thanks, Brilliant. My experience is Avaya, but I am hoping to be able to maintain Hicoms, or at least do moves and changes.
