I have a win2000 server which is part of a workgroup. win95 pc dials froma remote location using dial up networking but the server will not answer. i have tried 3 different modems, 2 internal and 1 external, but the server will not answe. the modem does not ring.
I need the win95 pc to access the c drive on the server, which is shared.

can anyone help?

You need to setup the server to accept incoming calls. Is this a stand alone server or is it a domain controller. If it is has AD you will need to setup Routing and Remote access. If the server is stand alone then you will need to create an incoming call connection and give the win95 user privilages to dial in and access the server. Give some more info on your config so that we have a better understanding of your setup.

thanks for replying.
it is a stand alone server. no ad. i have setup an incoming connection. the user is setup on the local server with dial in priveleges. routing and remote access service is running. The problem is that the modem does not even attempt to answer the call, so we don't even get to the authentication stage. perhaps the problem is the modem drivers. the modem dials the internet OK.
thanks again
