Hi, I want to setup an extension so I can dial in remotely and make simple changes to the system, like call forwarding. Can someone explain how to set that up? Thanks,

The IPS has an Internal Modem for remote access, You can also use MAT via TCP/IP.

For the internal modem which sound like what you want do the following.

Define the extension for the modem in command 4010>1>xxxx where xxxx = the modem extension.
Also make sure that SW2_4 is on.

Direct a DID or trunk to the modem or just transfer from attendant or VM.

Yes exactly the same. If you have indial you may also need to check command 76

Ok thanks for your help on this, one more question, what do I use to connect with the PBX? Software? I have all of the manuals for the PBX, is there any documentation explaining how to make changes to the PBX? Thanks,

You really need a copy of Matworx but you can get by just using a terminal emulator. Hyperterminal will work. If you are going to do this may I suggest you check out the FAQs as I posted one that tells you what key does what.

Just to make sure I understand, I have the ext and associated it with a DID. so i just dial that number from a PC to connnect, then open hyper terminal, and use the same keys i use in MOC terminal? I don't need a modem string, or anything else???

Nevermind guys, i got it going!!! Thanks for all your help. Last question, is there a way to setup some sort of authentication or security to prevent unauthorized access? Thanks again all of you!

see previous posting by mextra:

got to MOC mode.
E9>7>XXXXX This is where you enter the PW for the PBX
E9>8>1 this does not allow anyone to see what the PW is.
E9>9>0 this turns on PW service.

Now you can set the PW to your matworx connection.

To login from MOC or the phone.
03>7>X this is where the PW is entered to login.

Its not possible to dial into the PBX using an outside phone/handset/cell phone, is it?

Yes

Two ways either by indial if you have that or by DITing a pstn line to that extension.

Can you explain in further detail. I don't understand what indial or DITing a pstn line to that extension. Currently I have a DID associated to the extension of the dial in modem. I have connected using hyper terminal and was able to do everything I needed, but making changes from a cell phone or lan line would be ideal. Thanks for all you help and time on this issue and I apologize for my lack of knowledge in this area. Thanks,

Indial = direct to the extension dialling from an external source.
DIT = direct in termination where an exchange line is programmed to always ring to one extension (sounds like what you call a DID).

How do you mean making changes from a cell phone? I have seen it done from a PDA over a mobile connection but it is a pain to set up (I tried to set up an Ipaq but couldn't get the GPRS connection to establish which may just be an OZ thing). As for Lan not not possible on the IVS.

I must revisit the pda connection problem though. I believe it may be easier with certain networks in America(the name Cincular {sp?} springs to mind).

I was meaning, you can program the PBX using a dterm phone. I was curious if you could use another phone. Not directly connected to the pbx. Like my home phone or cell phone. No big deal I got it working with hyper terminal. Thanks again for all your help.

Dterm with a data adapter with the img's it would bypass std and idd settings. I used modems to do remote mat/cat changes

Never give up never give in.

There are no short cuts to anything worth doing :)
