Hi all,

I believe I need a remote access card for my R6 ACS system in order to use the optional administration software.

Is that correct?
Is there a remote Access card for R6 other than the rather expensive backup/remote/upgrade combination card? I obviously don't need an upgrade to R6.

The Avaya Partner 7068-600 Voice Messaging R6.0 product includes Windows based administration software providing mailbox management directly through a LAN connection to a PC's internet browser.

Anyone know if by chance this allows access to the ACS administration as well?

Thanks!

For remote administration into a Partner system you need a RAU. It is a PCMCIA card that plugs into a slot on the ACS processor. Then you need the Remote administration software. The version of software is dependent on the Software version of the processor. To determine the version dial feature 59 at extension 10. Presently version 5 is available to the public. I just purchased a version 6 processor and cannot access the remote programmer with my version 5 software.

Thanks, fonedude. Appreciate the info about the R5 software. I was concerned that R5 software may not be compatible.

you can use a backup/remote/upgrade from any version, but you will need the R6 admin software.

Hey homerdodgefarm,
Your system should have a backup/restore card in it. The extension is 76. Call it from any phone and you should hear the modem squealing in your ear.
The Voicemail Administration allows access to the voicemail. Totally different system (even though it's in the same cabinet).

Chaim, thanks for your response.

Chris,
I think it's just a backup/restore card, rather than the RAU/Backup/Restore/Upgrade card. Extension 76 just rings.

I didn't really think they would have bundled the ACS admin in with the Voicemail admin, but I figured I'd ask on the outside chance. It's only one system, and my programming needs aren't that great or much different than I had on the old Partner II, R1.0, system. So I decided that it isn't worth pursuing the whole RAU and Admin Software deal, given the time and cost. That makes more sense for a vendor.

Anyway, I went with the Voice Messaging R3.0 PCMCIA card, as far as voice mail goes. Should get it on Wednesday.

Thanks,
George

Hi George,
This is interesting. Starting with ACS 3.0, the backup / restore card also had the modem built in. You didn't need anything else except the software for your pc. Call Avaya to see if they have changed things ( I doubt it). Your card may be defective.

Is your card silver, and thicker like a type II card? If so, you have the RAC card. If it has a Green or Yellow label, and does not have the bulge, it is the older backup/restore card without the modem.

Well, it's a silver card (the physical card is metal, which is silver I suppose), it's thin, and is labeled Avaya Partner Translation Card, 2 Megabyte, and dated Avaya, 2002).

Hi George,
Mine is labeled "remote access pc card". It's silver and not that thick. Yours is newer so who knows? The last card I saw was R5 and it looked the same. We have R6's on back order so I guess we'll see when they come in. The label seems to indicate that it is just a backup / restore card. Why not ask the question on Avaya's web site?
