Every time I scan my hard drive with spybot, it produces a list of entries that dont belong. Even if I click fix problems, and it does, I can scan later on the same day and pull the same results like.. hitbox, adrevolver and the list goes on and on. When i click on the entries for details i see 'bla bla bla mastercard, bla bla visa, bla bla credit union log in!! Is this as bas as it looks? is this typical? Should I be using mcafee antispyware to go along with virus scan and firewall? Ive scanned for viruses after updating definitions and mcafee turns up nothing, and I don't have to surf random or sub-prime web sites to pick these up either, mostly I check my mail to log onto my banks web site. This seems a fairy general question so a general answer IMHO There are two approaches to 'Home' computer security.
1. Paid for integrated approach. e.g McAffe,Symantic etc. You have to put your trust in one of these suites, but after all, if an attack does get through then you have someone else to blame ??
2. Free approch. I use the following combination.
Comodo Fireall. AVG anti-virus and Spyware Terminator.
plus I back these up with Ad-aware, Spybot and AVG Antispyware (Ewido) periodic scans. Paranoid I don't think so, but maintainance is up to you.
The alternative is simply keeping your fingers crossed, but that wont keep your computer free of the rubbish that infests the Internet.

I did not immunize with spybot but will so i wasnt aware of the option. I HAVE mcafee antivirus, mcafee firewall and spybot. Are these programs enough to keep my credit card info secure? Why do the spyware strings contain my personal info in the details tab?? thanks for the help
You might want to download a copy of Hijack This and post a log here, so that hopefully someone can look it over in depth. If you've got spyware files showing up that is containing your personal data, then yes, I'd definitely be very concerned.

mostly tho i use AVG AV, Adaware,and ASquared on a periodic scan, and occaisionally use the rest when things seem wrong.
I have also used paid for - xoftspy (very good), webroot spysweeper, Norton internet security (and their spereate products - firewall, av), McAfee security suite (and their spereate products - firewall, av, etc), zonealarm pro, and many more that i cant remember right now.
also I use firefox as that will help but you must have the adblock, javascript blocker, Trackmenot add ons. this all helps.
As you can see i have done quite a lot of software testing!
there's several other things i have done to help minimize the risk, but at the end of the day you still have to keep your fingers crossed!

The small network I administer at work (here) gets very little rubbish, dues to a similar combination as I mentioned before plus all the machines are behind a NAT/Proxy router, and they are not 'always on'. This plus a combination of keeping everything up to date, using an ISP that pre scans for virus and 'mail dumping' seems to keep us nasty free.
At home I connect (at 56K) once a month to download mail and M$ updates. Then run all the scans to clean up the tracking cookies that may have got on during the < 1Hr connected.
