I was reading the manual and it say that the 3rd T1 card in a maxi system goes into slot 7 or 8 of the combo card. My questions is, does it make a difference which combo it goes into? Or is it in the place where the Companion was into? I would assume it just opens up where the companion was in? What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance,

No, it must only go in module 7 or 8, a trunk module cannot be connected to modules 9 to 14.
Also, I beleive you must use the latest version of the DTI card in the trunk module.

Yes, there is a new DTI card that was introduced with 6.0 that has to be used as the 3rd DTI off core. I don't believe it has to be used as the first 2 on KSU.

Just so i understand this, if i am adding a 3rd T1 card, would it go on a trunk module, slot1 and connect to either slot 7 or 8 on my 6 port combo card? Or if i already have a trunk module connected say on slot 8 of the combo card with one trunk card, can i add the 3rd T1 card to port one of the trunk module and move the trunk card to slot 2?
Gabriel

That is correct. I personally have only verified module 8, but documentation says 7 will work too. And yes, just move your trunk card over.

Hi All,

The information I have indicates that the 3rd DTI card must reside alone in the TM. There cannot be any cards in slot 2 or 3 of the TM. Let me know if I missed something somewhere.

rstar, you are correct. I mis-quoted myself when I said move the trunk card over. I ment to say to move it over to another trunk module.

I have been teaching Norstar Installation and programming since 1996, and often think I have all of the answers ...yea right...
I have always understood that since release 6.0 you can only have one off-core DTI and it can be in either slot 3 or 4 of a midi system, or seven or eight of a maxi or mega system. Nortel documentation states this on page 224 of the documentation CD. I have two vendors swearing that you can have TWO off-core DTI cards. Are there any published tips that state the facts clearly?

those 2 vendors are pulling a fast one ...or they are smoking something wonderful

Jim, I heard the same thing....4 DTI's in a MICS but never researched as I do not have any applications for 4 on a single MICS yet. Can anyone verify for sure?

Jim Husted,,,long time no see. Since the Burnaby BCM course and the seafood at the Cannery Restaurant. Are you in Plano or on the road? I'll email you and we can catch up a little
Anyway, I think the reference in the documentation refers to slot 3 or 4 of the KSU, not the expansion card. Interesting about the 4-DTI rumours though. Perhaps they are being misled by 4 PRI line pools available in profiles 1 & 4, thinking that refers to 4 spans of PRI.

sprucegrover,

I got your email...I too enjoyed teaching that class and dinner at the Cannery. I think their confusion is with the word "or". The phrasing "module 3 or 4" if the system has a two port expansion cartridge, or "module 7 or 8" if they have a six port expansion cartridge gives the impression that you can have two off-core DTIs. The KSU has always supported a DTI in either slot, but the off-core DTI, new since 6.0 has to go in the first slot of a TM attached to an expansion cartridge. I ask the question because Nortel often has "unadvertised specials", and "occasionally incorrect documentation". These people who are giving me this information may also have found that even if it is not supported by Nortel, it may just work. I am looking for definitive documentation from Nortel that supports either way.

another question:

What is the NT part number for the DTI that can be used for the off-core application?

In case anyone is interested, I got two replies from Nortel, one from a major account rep, and one from ITAS...the total number of DTI's supported on the MICS at 6.1 is 3.

I actually just got the same response from ITAS.. 3 T-1 in V 6.1

I found out the other day that 6.1 had an issue with the 3rd T1. That is why Nortel is now shipping 6.1 MR. Found out when my NRU map files didn't work :-(

rhowlett,

Are you saying there is a re-release for 6.1 to fix 3rd T issue??

Rhowlett,

Thanks for the update. I have to upgrade one machine, and buy two more. I will verify that I get the maintenance release.
