A user came to me with an unusual request:

The user wishes that his e-mail from the in-house account be relayed to his personal external e-mail account (something like: jdoe@msn.com). This situation would create a duplicate e-mail in their in-house mailbox and their MSN account. Even if it is possible it poses a security risk that we won't want to take. I still want to know if it's possible out of curiosity.

You can use Outlook to create server-based rules.

A rule similar to "On all mail that I receive send a copy of the mail to <this> receipient"

where <this> is the a new SMTP-based internet user you will create on the server. This is created by doing a add user and choosing internet mail address. You can choose to hide this new user from appearing in people's global address book.

This server-based rule will work even with the client computer not connected to the exchange server.

Using Exchange Admin you should be able to create a Custom Recipient with the users external Email address. Than bring up the properties of the users internal mailbox and set the alternate recipient section of the delivery options tab to send the messages to the Custom recipient you just created.
