Gang:

I have been digging in these forums and what I have found does not work.

Situation:
Network at company1.com has an exchange 2000 server and is behind a sonicwall firewall.

There are several people working out of this office for company2.com. They want to be able to send and receive email from their outlook client via their settings i.e. Incoming: company2.com and Outgoing company2.com.

I have set up a connector to company2.com and they can send mail but not receive. The only thing I have seen is something about policies. I followed the steps as set down by Microsoft for setting up a policy to supposedly receive mail. All this did was bounce any internal mail from company1.com when they tried to send to company2.com.

This is becoming criticle and I am out of ideas. Any help?

Thanks in Advance

couple of ideas ..

1. if your using a sonicwall, why not just install vpn clients on company2 users machines so they can access mail server at company1 direct?

2. outlook web access?

They do not have OWA set up on their server. I am not even sure if they are using Exchange.

Someone suggested that because my server is inside the firewall that this is causing the issue.

Wouldn't they need that VPN on their side as well?

That is a good Question. I will have to check.

What is the reason for the bounced mail?

How are you connecting to the exchange server, do you have the sonicwall vpn client on the client pc?

There is no VPN client on the "visitors" notebooks. The visiting PC's are not connecting to company1.com's exchange server. They have access to the internet from their wireless notebooks.

I will get the exact wording of the message but I am almost sure it is Connection interrupted by server.

I hope I have explained this right. Another example is my notebook, at the office I check Comcast mail. If I go to their office I cannot use my Outlook client (configured with Comcast)to check mail. I have to use Comcasts web interface to check mail. This is not an issue to me but these guys are high up Muckety Mucks and want it to "just work". Ever had those guys :D

OK A little more detail please.

You have given the configuration of company1 but not company 2 i.e. firewalls etc
What is the relation between comp1 and com2
Are you running in native mode or mixed?
Are the visitiors trying to get mail using POP3?

Vicky

I know very little about company2. I think they are totally Linux based.

Company2 is sharing space at Company1. The executives that is. I do not know where the hardware is located. Would be a good idea to ask.

Native

I am not sure. I know I am but they just have company2.com in both the incoming and outgoing email.

The reason i as so meny question is that we have a number of sites with VPN connections between but at all sites we also have the Sonicwall Pro.

i have two suggestion:

1. Use OWA easy to setup, and you don't have to bother comp2

2. if comp2 is on a different network, then you could use the Sonicwall VPN client on the visitors at comp2 to create VPN's through to your sonicwall and they would then be able to use their outlook client. You would have to make sure that the comp2 firewall (if they have one) allows the ports through.

personally i would go with 1 because if anyone asked me to open ports i would no way

hope this helps if not do another posting
