Ok, I'm in the process of upgrading a IP500v1 (control unit only) from 4.2_20 to Rel 8.0_18. I've received an upgrade license with a correct material code of 267785 with a description of "IPO LIC UPG R8.0 SML". All of this looks correct however when I added this license to the IPO the description in the config is "Small Site Software Upgrade 5". Does this sound correct?

When I started the upgrade the upgrade window shows Licensed 0 and Required License 0.....is this what I should see? I thought I should see a number other than 0 for each entry.

I proceeded with the upgrade and got a caution window stating "Upgrading to Rel 5 and beyond requires a software run time license. Please insure you have purchased and configured the correct software license on each IP Office before proceeding. Upgrading without this license will result in the ipoffice entering unlicensed mode where telephony will be suspended. Proceed with upgrade?". At this point I stopped. Is what I've described normal for a rel 8 upgrade or am I missing something or is the upgrade license incorrect/corrupt.

Thanks inadvance for any help.

Is the upgrade license showing up as Valid or Invalid under the config?

Just upgrade it.
Release 5 does not know release 8 licenses.
You can always go back.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Anyone else think it would ok to upgrade to rel 8 based on my observations?

You can certainly trust tlpeter. He is extremely knowledgeable.

SHK Certified (School of Hard Knocks)
NCSS, ATSP/IP

I would upgrade it. As tlpeter states, The R5 doesn't know the R8 licenses so it may show a little funky until you upgrade to R8 when it will then be recognized correctly. If you trust the source you purchased the upgrade from, do it.

It's not a R5, it's a 4.2_20 if that makes a difference.

PRNDL2,

Yes, you can proceed with upgrade. Your release 4.2/5.0 dose not recognize R8 licences.
As long as licence is valid, once you upgrade, and reboot, You will be on R8. IP500 upgrade fast! IP500v2 with SD card is another story, grab something to eat, it will be done when you come back!

Indeed you can upgrade.
In 4.2 there where no plans (not told to the outside world) for upgrade licenses.
Just do the upgrade, it will go well.

remember the Small licence restricts the system to 32 extns

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

The upgrade was a success....I'd like to thank everyone esp tlpeter for the good advise and moral support.

Thanks again.

You are welcom.
If you don't know it then it could scare you but i hardly can remember an upgrade going wrong.
When it went wrong i did not pay attention and did it wrong myself.

Yes it is... I just created a very complex call flow on a C110 VM and it works as a charm, now i try to send a recorded wav file to email and i cannot get it working while it is a basic feature...

I still have a non working voice question.
Try it, you will have no message.

There seems to be an issue with voicemail messages.
And that is what it is made for, messages :)
