Is release 10.1 considered part of a 10.0 release updates or is it a major release which requires specific licensing

If you are licensed for 10 you get to upgrade to 10.1

If you have a new unused system then the R10 Esential license is valid to use R10.1
If you have a excisting R10.0 system then you need a upgrade license to upgrade to 10.1

R10.0 to R10.1 does not require an upgrade license. Unlike 8.0 to 8.1 or 9.0 to 9.1.
From the release notes for clarity.

IP Office R10.1 software/binaries will be available through PLDS or support site for no
charge to existing R10 customers. Customers from pre-R10 releases would be required to
upgrade to R10 using available release upgrade licenses and apply the R10.1 software load
using Manager. Customers already on R10 may apply the R10.1 software load without
requiring additional upgrade licenses.

the 10.1 release documents say it is a Minor release not a major release & does not need an upgrade licence


Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

PLDS can't handle . releases. R10 over R10.X. I imagine R11 will be the same. I've been told, but don't know, CM works the same way. You buy CM 6 licenses and can run CM 6.x.x with them.

I guess naming it 10.1 was a fault because the IPO team didn't recognize that PLDS doesn't make a difference between 10.0 and 10.1. If they would have seen that earlier it would have been 11.0
