Who knew furgle was a rejected word? This Time article talks about Oxford's rejected dictionary words. There is also a link in the article for more rejected words, too. I kinda liked Xenolexica and Vidiot.

This is way too close to the name of our new, low-intelligence feline, "Kittiot".

I read thru the longer list in the Telegraph. One word stood out for me as one I have used and generally accept:

Earworm - a catchy tune that frequently gets stuck in your head.

Quite often, I suffer from a case of Museum Head after having a Nonversation with a Headset Jockey.

Thanks, James, for the "Welcome Back". It's good to be back. My absence resulted from my putting in 77 to 105.85 hours per week (salaried, not hourly) on my current project. We're implementing now, and there are promises that we'll be "coasting" back to simply a 55-hour week. <grin>

I have one of my own:

Walmartian - someone who frequents big-box retail stores all day without buying anything.

Been there, still doing that. Only in my case, I don't get to do much programming. I'm filling in for people who are on vacation this summer, helping our CFO with an audit, repairing computers, etc., etc. My wife is more than a little ticked that I don't get a vacation again this year. Me, I alternate between [cry] and [hairpull]. If I was doing some actual programming, it wouldn't be so bad but this . . .

isn't that the thing they use in " The Wrath of Khan" for mind control?

Earworm

Also sounds kind of like a folk/home remedy I read someone mention online for an earache:
I have another post on how I treated my son's earache with sweet oil and pressed garlic, but a friend of mine who is 60yrs old was telling me how his mom used to treat them when they were children. He said lots of people did this. It's completey gross and I have googled it and can't find it anywhere where anyone else has done this so I am curious to see if anyone else has heard of this rememdy. He said they would find a wasp nest that had larvae in it. They would take a fresh larvae out and squeeze it and put the goop from it in the ear. OMG,,,I'm gagging just thinking about it,,,but then again, if it's hurting bad enough, a person would probably willing to try anything to make it stop.

kjv,

I'm prone to sinus headaches which can result in a pretty mean earache if the headache gets bad enough (such as during the weather we've been having for the past week - thanks to TD #5 coming back for a second shot at southeastern Louisiana).

If it's all the same, I'll just make an appointment with my doctor, after some Advil and Zyrtec D. ENTs down here can make a killing.

Oh, I was definitely in no way implying I'd use the remedy. [ROFL2] Some things make sense, that one aint one of the things. And I doubt I'll ever see any medical evidence.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be shocked if this '60 year old man' was picking at the person who posted it, and that's why she can't find any evidence elsewhere. Either that, or there are some really odd locals where she lives. [spineyes]

Yep.

Hitting your head against the wall will cure a headache -- if you hit yourself hard enough, you will never have a headache again (but then, your head may not be recognizable as such, and your body temperature and room temperature will soon be at equilibrium).
