I am going to have to reinstall the server that SMS is currently installed on soon (someone before me made the C: drive be 1.5 GB ... and under Win2k Server that just isnt working out well) ... so I was wondering what issues there would be with a fresh install of SMS server if all the clients are currently associated. I was planning on keeping the same site code, but the backend database would be erased (it needs to get purged anyways) ... would this present a problem? What would be the best way to handle this?

Thanks in advance.

When we had to redo our server from scratch (it was really beyond the pail), all sorts of confusion ensued because we didn't change the Site Name. SMS wanted to push a NEW site named NIA, but the clients insisted on using the OLD NIA

You may want to come up with a new site name. If you rebuild the server alot (guilty), start a sequential name (we changed to NF1, then NF2, and now we're on NF3).

The reason for this: You'll most likely have to uninstall and reinstall the clients when the server is done being rebuilt. If you use logon scripts like we do, you can have the script uninstall if the Site Code is SC# or less, install if there is no client, or leave it alone if the Site Code is equal to SC#

Hope this helps, and best of luck

Have you considered using partition magic or something like that to change the size of the partition? instead of wiping everything?
