I reinstalled XP home and now I have to hit F1 before it will load.(after turning on the power) Any Ideas? And THANKS to bcastner for the help earlier you simple explanation was great.

If it asks you to press F12 to boot from Network the bios has a network that is part of the boot order. Change it in the BIOS boot order to not show the network.

It that isn't the message please let us know what the message is.

Heres what happens in order. 1 Press the power button, The Dell logo appears. In the top right hand corner of the screen F2 and F12. After this page loads the next screen has the following message Drive 1 not found:Serial ATA, SATA1
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to setup utility.
I press F1 and Windows loads and acts normaly.

i got this error also after removing the sp2 then using the system restore to return it ... i had problems with the CDRom ,, then everything became fine when the CDRom worked fine ..

I tried removing the service pack 2. Still dose the same thing and double checked CD Rom, any other ideas? Thanks

Its nothing about Windows, you need to check settings in BIOS.

Following on from your other thread, it seems that you don't have a floppy drive connected. Have you got this type of setting in your Bios?

"Boot up floppy seek" or any other floppy setting set instead of disabled?

I'm with Linney on this one - In your other thread bcastner recommended that you source a Floppy from another machine and use that to install your SATA drivers, The Bios must still be looking for that Floppy.

I installed a floppy drive to load the SATA drivers. Do I need to change the boot order in setup? Thanks

Normally it would just skip past any non booting device until it finds the first bootable device that it recognizes and is able to boot from. Floppies are a bit different if you have a non startup floppy in the drive, resulting in a non system disk type of error.

Check your order of boot devices and make sure the floppy is after the hard drive. Make sure your floppy is actually connected correctly too.
