have you downloaded and installed the LATEST manufactures driver for your video card?

Sounds like the Generic driver is still there.

You have made a common error in as much as you have not reloaded your Video drivers. It is always prudent when refomatting and reloading to write down the name of the drivers for Sound, Video and Modem. If you have the driver discs all well and good, if not you will need to download them from the Net. You may have to remove the cards and look on them to ascertain the correct name for the drivers in order to look for them on the net. If the Sound, Video and modem are integrated on the motherboard, you should find all the drivers on the motherboard disc. Good Luck..........Dave

is there any possible way to tell what adapter i have w/o taking apart my computer?

not unless you download a program that can correctly identify your chipset (i forgot the name of the program)

first is identifying if you have an onboard video card or an additional video card.

does your video card fit in a slot? or is it part of the mainboard?

if it's onboard, and you know the mainboard name/model you can get it from the manf website.

if it's a card, the easiest way is to pull it out . .it will not affect your install or current settings ... as it's not installed =) (other then prompting you for drivers upon reboot cancel till you can get them)
