My computer is a mess. It boots up fine, but there are many errors. My kids have downloaded too much. My anti-v---s will not run, nor can I install a new one or download one. Explorer shuts down when you try to do this. I am very frustrated and want to begin over again. I have the windows me cd. Will I have to install the drivers again. Or can I just run the windows me cd. I don't care what I lose. I just need instructions on how to reinstall it. Thanks.

Lanie

if you decide to reformat and reinstall winme. first make sure you have a boot disk.
if not go to control panel and add and remove programs. make a startup disk.
i have noticed some hard drives now recomend you dont fdisk them. so you would boot from floppy with cd support. and format c:
go into setup at start usualy the delete button and make sure to boot from cd is in the startup.
it should pickup the setup and install from there. if it boots from floppy you have to pick the hard drive normaly c: and do the setup from there.
windows should install the basic drivers to get up and running then you can always go online to upgrade drivers if you need to.

i run belarc adviser (search google for it) that gives a list of devices ect on the computer so i can download any drivers i need before i start.
and good idea to make sure the 3.5 boot disk is virus free before you start.

always expect the un expected. ive done this many times and i have had a few unexpected things turn up.

I have a toshiba 1805-s 273 laptop and have much problems with Me. I don't know much about computers, so I just put in the toshiba supplied cd restore disk and went through the steps and the computer works much better now. Still has errors about not being able to find files occasionally, but Me is trash software. Everybody that I talk to that has had ME has said they had too much trouble with it, so they upgraded. I am too cheap and don't think I should have to pay Bill Gates for what he should have done the first time.

I installed and ran spybot and adware and initially had problems with the system locking up, but now it hasn't locked up since.

I would recomend staying away from ME go with windows 98 second edition if you cant go with XP.

Ya, if I had it to do over, I would never had bought a computer with ME, but I am too cheap to get other software. My Windows 95 computer runs Microsoft WWII Flight and Comanche great, but won't run on ME at all.

One reason I like Me is that it has a lot of the default drivers so often you don't even need to bother with the missing driver issue like you do in 98/98se which can be a real pain if you change from one used part to another.

Me does has a few drawbacks, but at worst I'd call it a trade-off, all depends on how you look at it. Also, it is not recommended to be run in a Novell Netware network.
