Reimporting rpt files into DSR

I have some reports the input for which is through a VB form. So I usually create a designer file (DSR) in the VB environment, design the report and run it.

Now some reports need a chart in them. If I want to define custom colors for the charts, I found that the only way out was to save the DSR as an rpt file and open the stand alone report and in the Preview mode select "Chart Analyzer" and do whatever changes I need. Then I have to reopen another DSR that imports from this modified rpt file using the "From Existing Report" option while inserting a DSR into a VB project.
I have 2 questions /issues here

1. The changes I make in the chart analyser (like changing the color of the bar, increasing the size of the text etc.,) don't always reflect back in the DSR that I create to using the modified rpt file. Any pointers on why this couold be? Or is there a particular way of saving it and opening it back in the designer file?

2. In subreports if the subreport is based on an external rpt file, there is an option "Reimport while opening" which when used will reflect whatever changes are made in the rpt file. Is there any similar functionality to reimport the rpt into a Microsoft Designer File (DSR). Right now, everytime i make a change in the rpt file and want that in the DSR, I have to remove the original DSR from the project, add a new DSR which is based out the modified rpt and rename it. Is there anyway I could do anything like "Reimport while opening"

Any help is greatly appreciated.
