Hi,

I've noticed that the system drive on one of our Windows 2000 Advanced Server servers is running very low on space. I cleared this up a few weeks ago so was a little confused that it was all gone so quickly especially as the drive is not used to store any data.

Looking around I found files called REG00001, REG00002, REG00003....REG01840 in the %SystemDrive%\WINNT\system 32 directory. All of these files together total about 5GB.

Firstly, I would like to know what these are, secondly how can I remove them and thirdly how can I stop them coming back!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Andy

Peter,

Thanks for your post. Where did you find that article?!! I've been searching for hours on end and couldn't come up with anything useful!! Out of interest, did you find it through a search engine? If so which one and what did you enter?!!

We have 4 Windows servers that each back up their System State Data every night. I think that this might well be what is causing the problems although it is strange that it only appears on 1 of the servers.

I will write a batch script that cleans these up after the backup has finished.

Thanks for this and for such a quick and useful answer, have a star.

Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the star!

Reading that article...it seemed to me as though the problem only occurred when backing up over the network.

Either way, glad to be of help.

Peter.

but it's important to be nice :)
