After sp2 we have been having lots of problems with the security center and synchronising files on our network. I am trying to figure out how to registry hack to disable these functions. They cause severe preformace problems on our network such as network lag with updates and hard drives being filed by synchronized files. We are using ghost server so after we push with them disabled through the gui they will reinable themselves, the also reinable after we join the computer to the domain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using the Windows Firewall INF File in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2

Deploying Windows Firewall Settings for Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2

Managing Windows XP Service Pack 2 Features Using Group Policy:Deploying Group Policy Settings in SP2

Location: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update

Description:
Specifies whether this computer will receive security updates and other important downloads through the Windows automatic updating service.

This setting lets you specify if automatic updates are enabled on this computer. If the service is enabled, you must select one of the four options in the Group Policy Setting.

Any ideas on the synchronized files because some people have roaming profiles and it kills the hard drive space so fast. If there is a way to ensure that it stays disabled that would be awesome.

google and download the "group policy management console" snap in for Windows, installing it on your domain controllers and also on your workstation to edit the policies remotely, and modify the default domain policy, under Computer configuration\administrative templates\network\offline files

"Allow or Disallow use of Offline files feauter" - Disabled
"Prevent Use Of Offline File Folders" - Enabled
"Prevent User Configuration of Offline files" - Enabled
"Remove (Make Available Offline)" - Enabled

thank you
