Hi...it has been a while since I have been on Tek-Tips but I have a problem now that I need help with.

I had a copy of JASC Paintshop Pro6 on my system and I recently updated it to JASC Paintshop Pro8.

I uninstalled the former and the installation of the latter appeared to go smoothly.

However....when I load this program I get the following error

**************************************************************
Failed to update the system registry, Please try using REGEDIT
**************************************************************

When I close this window the program loads and runs properly so whatever is not updated is not fatal....but it is a nuisance.

I have never used REGEDIT to update my registry before so I am at a lose as what to do.

I am running Microsoft Windows XP Version 2002 SP2 with Mozilla Firefox version 1.5.0.1 as my browser.

What aspect of my registry is being updated? How can I change it? Please advise in gorey detail what I should do as I have never done any editing there.

I have always appreciated the help I receive from this site.

If it doesnt tell you what needs to be done in the registry I cant see how you could edit it. Have you tried installing it again to see if it will complete its registry entries?

I have the same problem. I had JASC Paint Shop Pro 5 and updated to 8.1 (without uninstalling 5; it is much faster to start up). But I now have the problem exactly as you describe it. I have uninstalled 8.1 and reinstalled. The problem persists. Anyone know what to do with this?

Have either of you contacted there tech support on the issue? As theres not a whole lot we can say on it except maybe try a clean install, completely remove the old version and its registry keys and do a clean install if your able.

I am sorry for not responding earlier but I discovered the problem.

Wasisnt was right....it was the installation that was the problem. It seems I installed it as though I was on a network. I am not .... it is a sole computer install. So when it was starting up it was trying to update it was trying to update the other users...which of course there were none.

That is why I got the message....and that is why I still had full functionality aftr the message disappeared.

Reinstallation solved th problem.

BTW...PaintShop Pro 8 is a great program...their one click photo fixer saves tons of time tweaking pics.
